ROBOTICS AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENT: WHAT WILL BECOME OF IT?

What are robots? What is artificial intelligence? Are these new things to mankind? To understand these new terms we need to understand the definition of either. In today's terms, it has been difficult to define them separately. Robotics and artificial intelligence are defined as ‘equipment that interacts with their environment on their own without a control source and can determine reactions to objects and problems they encounter using their pre-existing programming. A hybrid is a form of programming that incorporates both AI and RC functions’. As this definition may seem complicated already, I will break it down further. What is the history of Robotics?

The first robot was discovered in 1954 by George Devol. He invented the first digitally operated and a programmable robot called the Unimate. In 1956, Devol and his partner Joseph Engelberger formed the world's first robot company. In 1961, the first industrial robot, Unimate, went online in a General Motors automobile factory in New Jersey.

These were the first generation of robots that became user-friendly. They were adopted in the manufacturing sector with great success. Today, most of the products we use are at one stage manufactured by robots. They became cheap and easy to use in areas where a human would endanger their life. Drones were used in the military to boom or spy on the target. The Robots were able to undertake a dangerous mission. What is the artificial intelligent robotics? How are they threatening mankind? Could they replace mankind all together? These questions have been with us for a long time. Mankind had gotten used to working with robots as long as he was the one giving commands. This is different in artificial intelligent robots.

Artificial intelligence is defined by the English Oxford dictionary as, ‘the theory and development of computer systems able to perform tasks normally requiring human intelligence, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and translation between languages’. These are machines that make their own decisions and don’t need human intervention. They can programme themselves to the tasks they find necessary. Suppose they decided to manufacture themselves and populate the earth? Would they fight mankind in whatever way they deem fit? Could they become a menace in future? To answer these questions, we need to know these ‘creatures’ further.

Artificial intelligent are machines with the ability to speech recognition, learning, planning, problem-solving reasoning and ability to manipulate objects. Without looking only on the negative side of artificially intelligent robots, they have a positive side too. They will enhance research to greater heights. They can work 24hours a day and achieve more than a human worker. They are already being used in hotels to serve customers with great success. These machines are now being used as self-driving cars in some cities. Our vehicles today have some basic artificial intelligent by use of sensors. This is what is happening but on a bigger scale.

The human being is also fearing to lose job opportunities. They feel that these machines will replace them sooner or later. When computers were introduced to office use, the same fear was realised. This never happened. They made life easier and human was able to accomplish more. The artificial intelligent machine will make work more enjoyable. So jobs will be eliminated of course. But the world will be a better place to live in. Imagine a robot being your watchman, chef, doctor and your self-driving car. What will be left for us to do?

Everyday gadgets like sports watches and smartwatches have the abilities to monitor our daily life have some form of artificial intelligent (AI).

The parting shot here is the best days are ahead. Life will be interesting to live in the times to come. Prepare your self for it.
